There are occasions at times in life where we are afforded the privilege of meeting some truly selfless people achieving seriously wonderful things. Some weeks ago I had the good fortune to be a part of such an enriching experience at The Cubby House Kids Club in Canggu.
Having long been an avid supporter of Solemen Indonesia and their incredible humanitarian efforts throughout the community, The Canggu Club was more than happy to open the doors of their Kids’ Club to a group of amazing children and their carers and families for an afternoon of fun and games. Each month, as a part of their VIP program to support those less fortunate, Cubby House Kids’ Club invite a group of children to share some playtime, enjoy a meal and don their very own VIP T shirt!
Solemen and Cubby House staff along with a gaggle of caring volunteers assisted with logisitcs, bussing the children from numerous locations around Southern Bali such as Gianyar, Renon, Sanur and Denpasar. Many of the youngsters needing to be carried in by willing helpers as their conditions rendered them unable to walk or move unaided.
These children and their families and carers have come to the attention of Solemen because of their various illnesses, plights and conditions and they are providing much appreciated assistance in an effort to help them experience a better life, much needed health care and support and aid for their families.
Their ages range from 6 months to 22 years of age and they are afflicted by such conditions including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, down syndrome, harlequins ichytosis and heart conditions, to name a few.
The afternoon involved the large group gathering at at The Cubby House, many taking advantage of the doll houses and numerous toys and games on offer while others, unable to stand, viewed the goings on from the comfort of their bean bags, a sparkle in their eyes and smiles on their faces conveying their enjoyment at simply being a part of the fun. Afternoon tea time rolled around and everyone enjoyed a feast the likes of nasi goreng, snacks and fresh fruit and juices.
The obvious love and care from an army of selfless volunteers from Solemen and the children’s family and friends was truly overwhelming to see and I was heartened by the stories of just how far some of these kids had come and the improvements in their day to day lives since Solemen first paid them a visit.
Families graciously relayed their stories and I was fortunate enough to have a cuddle with beautiful baby Azdkia, a wee little tot with a heart condition and down syndrome as well a chat with Ibu Deri and her grandson Kadek, who has cerebral palsy. The afternoon was an emotional one and it was hard to keep a dry eye at times when I thought not only about the challenges that lay ahead for these children, but also the inspirational assistance from groups such as Solemen and The Canggu Club and their efforts to improve the day to day lives of these children and their families.
For more information about the Cubby House Kids’ Club VIP program or how you can help support Solemen and their continuing work with these local families, please go to their website to view new and current cases requiring ongoing support. With continued charitable assistance from organisations such as Solemen Indonesia and The Canggu Club, as well as a little help from the likes of you and I, we can help to make these children and their families a better life.
Summer Movie Fun on the Big Screen @ Splash
Perfectly timed for school holiday fun, Canggu Club has added yet another arrow to their quiver of entertainment options with Starlight Movies at the popular Splash Water Park! Commencing just over a week ago, their premiere screening kicked off on Sunday June 28 with toddlers, tweens and teens grabbing their tubes and a spot to float to watch family friendly films.
Starlight movies are the ideal summer entertainer for warm dry evenings. A chance to enjoy watching the stars, under the stars from the cool comfort of your pool tube! The concept may not necessarily be new, as pool side movies have enjoyed popularity for sometime, however Canggu Club’s massive inflatable screen is certainly the latest in imported outdoor entertainment technology along with their high definition 3D projector!
Movies are scheduled to screen Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings throughout Summer. It’s an opportunity for youngsters and the young at heart to keep cool, recline in your very own ‘aqua chair’ and watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters, cult classics and family favourites.
Filmgoers can feast from the full dining menu at Splash and take advantage of the happy hour drink prices as well as enjoy traditional movie munchie favourites like popcorn, slushies and gelato.
In addition to the weekly Starlight Movie schedule, the brand new big screen will also be an awesome alternative to watch major sporting events, including tonight’s nail biting State of Origin Rugby League decider between Queensland and New South Wales which will be screened on The Sports Field. Take advantage of this divine dry season weather and enjoy the evening outdoors. You won’t miss any moments of the match and everyone can get a bird’s eye view of the game on the big screen. I can’t wait for the atmosphere and excitement on Grand Final Day!
Not just intended for movies and sport, the screen can also be made available for group presentations and product launches, private parties, special celebrations, fundraisers and staff functions. Imagine the impact a powerpoint display, slideshow or photo medley on a five metre screen would have on your group of guests!
Weekly movie schedules will be posted at Canggu Club or you can go to their website for further information. To book the big screen for your next function, group gathering or party, email the events team on:
