Grand Final Weekend – The Holy Grail of the Footy Season

20160921-blog-omg-nrl-02

For those among us who view their weekend football like religion, October’s Grand Final Double Derby is akin to The Holy Grail of sport! Months of making sure you see every single game of the season, the agony of missed opportunities as you witness home team goals gone awry and the nail biting excitement of a win with only moments left in the match, all culminate in the one weekend on the sporting calendar where even the wife/hubby lets you watch the telly for two days straight!

Living in Bali or even visiting the island at this time can cause a dilemma in terms of where to watch the game. After all, if you can’t actually be in the crowd, you’ll be wanting to find a venue where you won’t miss a minute of the match, with a few cold beverages and bar snacks thrown in for good measure.

The crew at The Canggu Club understand your passion for the game and seem to have caught a dose of footy finals fever themselves. For a start they are offering free entry to non Canggu Club members for every weekend in September including finals weekend on the 1st and 2nd of October. That’s right! No need to purchase a day pass to enjoy Bistro C or The Sports Bar!
AFL Grand Final Day action commences from 8am on Saturday, October 1st with the live telecast able to be seen across more than twenty screens located in the air conditioned Sports Bar as well as al fresco at Bistro C. Footy food will be available, along with the regular menu, with no shortage of your favourite ice cold brews.

Should you decide to make a day of it for the family, they will be screening free movies for the kids so you can concentrate on the footy and if you spend RP200K you receive a 1 hour pass for one child to Cubby House Kids Club just across the road. Now that’s guaranteed peace of mind! Of course if you and your family would like to take a spin on the slides at Splash, you can simply purchase a day pass that will ensure access to the water park, fitness centre and other areas of the Club.

Sunday October 2nd and you can do it all again with the NRL Grand Final telecast live from 3.30pm. Time enough to recover from the excitement of the previous day, make the most out of the last day of the 2016 season with friends amidst all of the fervour of footy finals. Once the siren has silenced screaming fans and the commotion has eventually abated, it’ll be time to start thinking about dinner, but no need to stress as Bistro C already has your Sunday evening meal sussed. Their succulent, traditional Sunday Roast is served from 5pm so feeding the family after footy will be a no brainer.

A tummy full of food along with live entertainment from Bistro C’s resident gig, Funky Baba Band, provides the perfect close and a fabulous finale to the 2016 football season. I’ll be sure to save you a seat!

New Dinner Menu Makes a Day @ Finns Complete

Finns beach Club

Think Finns Beach Club and images of sparkling water, sun beds and beautiful people beach side come to mind, but on further inspection of guests’ posts to their instagram page, it becomes clear that not only is this place a destination to die for, people are also flocking here for the food!

Already open a few months now, Finns has certainly begun to enjoy a considerable following from surf side lunch lovers seeking to ‘chew with a view’. What’s not to love about relaxing under a stunning bamboo pavilion with uninterrupted ocean vistas and a bird’s eye view of the action from the pool, not to mention full table service and menu options that sound so delicious it’s simply too hard to choose!

They recently introduced breakfast daily from 7am, perfect for those seeking some sustenance after an early morning surf or stroll on the sand and their lunch time menu has food lovers continually returning for favourites such as the gourmet pizzas, nachos and healthy green bowl choices to mention a few.

To add even more dilemma to deciding on what to order, Finns commences their exciting new dinner menu from September 5th, with reservations available from 6pm. A sneak peek of the menu has me planning my culinary attack already and marking off my favourites from Appetizers to Dessert!

Long cherished tropical favourite, The Prawn Cocktail, carries a spicy twist with the gochujang infused mayo adding a dose of Asian fusion to an oldie but a goodie. Being a bit of a grazer, the Finn’s Antipasto Platter for two flagged my attention with its mouthwatering array of Mediterranean fare including cheeses, marinated artichokes, asparagus, olives, bruschetta, sun dried tom…….sorry, still back at the cheese!! It’s the ideal accompaniment as you make your way through the list of Happy Hour cocktails available every evening from 8-10pm!

Gourmet pizzas still appear on the dinner menu along with a selection of decadent pastas like Chicken & Prawn Tagliatelle and Feta Cheese Cannelloni – fat parcels stuffed with spinach, leek, olives SDT’s topped with Finn’s home grown tomato sauce and Scarmoza cheese!

Mains are a hearty affair with meat being the star of the show. Choose from chicken, ribs, shanks and Red Snapper or test that man sized appetite and go it alone with a 400gm slow cooked, rib on the bone! Couples don’t despair, as this one can also be ordered to share. Which might just be a good idea as you will want to make certain you leave room for these desserts!

If Passionfruit and Vanilla Pannacotta or Valhrona Choccy Cake with Pistachio Ice Cream  don’t start your tastebuds trembling then wait ’til you try the Banoffee Tartlett with banana caramel mousse and Snickers Ice Cream…….See what I mean? Resistance is futile!

The new dinner menu is available in the restaurant area under the main pavillion (look for the incredible bamboo light sculpture) from 6pm until 10pm daily, but should you wish to dine around the pool and bar areas, you will still be able to order all of your faves from the regular lunch/all day dining menu.

Finns Beach Club is undeniably fabulous for swims, surf, sand, seeking friends and sunsets, but why not make the day complete with a meal from their new menu and entertainment courtesy of their evening DJs and die hard surfers looking for the day’s last wave under lights. There’s some Bali Bliss for you……!

Cinema Under the Stars is a Family Affair

20160905-BLOG-STARLIGHT

Everybody loves the movies. But there’s nothing quite like sitting in front of a big screen spilling popcorn down your shirt and sharing the fun of the flicks with others. Sometimes…….a DVD in the lounge room just doesn’t cut it!

Cue Saturdays and Starlight Movies @ Canggu Club. More than just a movie, these evenings provide the opportunity for families and friends to get together and reconnect for a bit of old fashioned escapism! Titles are chosen with the whole family in mind so everybody can feel free to pull up a bean bag and stay for a while. For those of us who remember the drive-ins of old (no age jokes necessary thanks…!) the feeling of watching a film surrounded by the stars and aromas of the evening adds to the enjoyment.

Something for everyone to enjoy, Starlight Movies are open to all with entrance to Bistro C and The Canggu Club free after 5pm and all day Saturdays and Sundays during September.

Now it’s just not the movies without popcorn and you can get yours fresh from the mobile ‘corn cart’ out on the lawn, complete with butter salt and a brown paper bag for just Rp18K. But if you have a little more of a sweet tooth, you can’t go past the s’mores and more platter to satisfy those sugar cravings.

Rp65K nett gets you cookies, marshmallows and dipping chocolate… everything you require to construct these delectable desserts and there’s even a selection of fresh fruit on the plate to appease some sugar guilt! Step over to the side of the movie screen and you’ll find your own little bonfire just waiting to make those marshmallows ’s’moresworthy’!! Seriously…..if you haven’t tried a s’more before you most definitely have a  treat in store! Of course, the incredible dinner menu from Bistro C is always available should you require a little more sustenance and Sports Bar is just behind you if you’re craving a cold one!

Canggu Club is always looking to give back to the community and just last month they hosted a gorgeous group of guys and girls from Denpasar’s Jodie O’shea Orphanage to come along and experience a night at the movies under the stars! The Popcorn was flowing, marshmallows melting and there were giggles all round as they delighted in watching Finding Dory on Bali’s biggest outdoor movie screen! But it wasn’t only the kids who made the most of the evening. Mums and Dads and members alike moseyed on in with their kids in tow and settled into a bean bag of their choice to make the most of a night with family.

For an all ages evening of good old fashioned entertainment, Saturday Starlight Movies @ Canggu Club is hard to beat. Movies commence from 7pm each week and you can check out what’s screening on a weekly basis on their website: cangguclub.com or via instagram: #cangguclub. Entry is free for the public with no day pass required. While you might not be able to roll your Jaffas down the aisles, Saturday night movies under the stars @ Canggu Club comes pretty close to replicating those magical movie night memories.
