2016014-blog-aus-day

Oi! Aussies! Keen to don your green and gold and let your spirit shine for the sunburnt country? Check out the line up of everything Aussie and all of this year’s Australia Day action on Sunday January 24th at The Canggu Club. Now the official date for Australia Day, January 26th, falls on aTuesday this year, but there’s no need to take a sickie as the crew at the ‘Gu’s best club have decided to kick off celebrations on the Sunday prior so everyone can don their cozzies enjoy a day of fun in the sun. And we all know Aussies can’t wait to get the party started!

So don’t despair if you are not Down Under for our nation’s birthday this year, with The Canggu Club’s plans for a day of all things Aussie along with their line up of tucker, sports and trivia, it’ll feel just like Oz! Home grown Australian hits will be on air throughout the day as they broadcast Triple J’s Hottest 100 around the venue.

Start getting into the swing of things from midday with a BBQ lunch including spit roast, meat pies, sausage rolls, lamingtons, vanilla slice (always nice!) and even the iconic cheesymite scrolls. It’s happy hour all day so you can wash that lot down with a few icy cold ones. How’s that for a ridgy didge Aussie feast!

There’ll be plenty to do for the whole family so bring the tin lids….err….kids and be a part of the entertainment with pavlova eating contests, ‘Classic Catch’ competitions in the Splash Lagoon Pool as well as NRL and AFL handball! There’s even a thong throwing championship so don’t forget to wear your double pluggers. (Note to other nationalities- thongs are an item of footwear in Australia!!!)

Serious sports action starts at 3pm with the annual Australia Day 20/20 cricket match. As usual, it’s Australia versus ‘the rest of the world’ and with the homeland still smarting after last year’s defeat, the Aussie underdogs will be out to win with a vengeance and take out all stops to dethrone the reigning champions from England, Indonesia, India, New Zealand….and….well anywhere else really!

If you are eager to be a part of the match of the day, give Canggu Club Fitness coordinator Peter the heads up and register your interest to play by emailing peter@cangguclub.com. It’s a cracker of an afternoon of sport and spectators can join in with some seriously funny sledging from the sidelines. If it all gets a little hot under the collar on field, you can always cool off in the air conditioned club bar and watch all of the excitement of the Australian Open Tennis with their live Australia Day telecast.

What better way to wind down the day than with a bit of afternoon trivia around the new Verandah Bar – Aussie style. See how much you know about our Great Southern Land as we find out who really is full of awesome Aussie facts (and no doubt a bit of fiction!)

As usual, entry on the day is free to Canggu Club members. Non members are more than welcome with entry to Splash Water Park included at only IDR 300,000 for adults and IDR 180,000 for children. Now you certainly don’t have to be an Aussie to be a part of the day, but you’d better be geared up for a crackin’ good time!
