Fresh off a successful week of Gu Crew holiday camp activities, the Junior Sports Academy launches its Term 2 After School Program from Monday October 17th and it’s sporting a few new surprise additions! Along with all of the usual suspects such as the ever popular tennis, soccer, gymnastics, swimming and trampolining, this term the JSA have included three new and exciting options into the schedule.

With its popularity on the rapid rise, it is little wonder that some Cross Fit training has been added to the program! Teen Strength is a Cross Fit inspired workout for teens who seek to be stronger, fitter, perform at a higher level in their chosen sports or simply learn how to lift weights safely and effectively for maximum results. Qualified trainers will vary workouts each session in an effort to build strength and develop technique. As the name suggests, this is a program aimed more towards boys and girls of ages 12 years and above.

The ancient practice of yoga has long been considered beneficial for mind, body and soul and it seems the team at JSA wholeheartedly agree as they have added it to the Term 2 schedule! Led by their experienced, gymnastics and trampoline coach Tanou, these sessions will encompass a range of different disciplines to generate a host of benefits for boys and girls of all ages. Not only a practice which encourages body awareness, yoga facilitates stress management through controlled breathing, meditation and movement. As well as the obvious physical benefits of strengthening, stretching, balance and flexibility, kids who practise yoga also develop concentration skills and the art of relaxation, enjoy increased confidence and positive self image, and can feel part of a healthy non competitive group!

The third addition to the Term 2 line up is the exciting sport of Muay Thai! Not just about going a round in the ring with fists and feet, Muay Thai is sometimes referred to as “the art of eight limbs” as it employs the use of eight points of contact – hands, feet, elbows and knees! This will be a fitness based program encompassing the skills of martial arts as well as the importance of discipline, confidence and self esteem! This sport is extremely effective in building strength, speed, agility and flexibility as well as cardio fitness.

Registration has already opened for the Term 2 After School Program but spaces are limited and vacancies for popular sports fill quickly. Participants have the option to join on a casual ‘drop in’ basis (subject to availability) or pay a minimum of eight weeks to take advantage of the discounted rate. Canggu Club members also enjoy reduced rates however registration is also open to non Canggu Club members alike!
