Off and Racing & Ready to Rock

Melbourne Cup

Melbourne Cup is but a couple of weeks away sot that means it’s time to get back in the saddle to book Bali’s biggest event on the annual social calendar! As always, it’s sure to be a stellar line up of entertainment as FINNS are sticking with their successful recipe featuring Australian home grown talent. Cup day guests are in for even more than a triple treat this year with not one, not two, but FOUR well known Aussie vocalists. Household names in Oz throughout the eighties, nineties and noughties; Paul Gray (of Wa Wa Nee), Mark Gable (Choirboys), Jason Singh (Taxiride) and Reece Maston ( X-Factor winner 2011) will grace the stage as ‘The Voices’ in a celebration of Australian music, ensuring an unforgettable afternoon of awesome tunes, great food, and fabulous fun. Relive some of those fantastic hits that became our unofficial Aus rock anthems like Run to Paradise, Everywhere You Go and Stimulation and get ready to rock and roll.

That’s right party people! Tuesday November 7th sees the Moet Marquee back on club grounds.
Purchase places for a table of ten or simply one for yourself and wait and see who will be your ‘cup crowd’ for the day! Tickets for non members and purchases for members are available from RP1.9 mill (RP1.8mill pp/table of ten).

Marquee tickets include three hours of free flow French champagne, quality wines and beers along with tasty canapés and a gourmet lunch. Gates open at 10am with a welcome drink and a chance to secure your winning tickets! Champagne and canapes are to be served from 11am with seating from 11.45 and the race of the day at 12 noon. Help yourself to gourmet lunch from 12.30pm and the free flow continues until 2pm. Raffles and auctions are planned throughout the day and of course all proceeds go toward respected Bali charity, Solemen Indonesia. 100% of the monies from this year’s event will be used by Solemen to fund urgent supplies required by the vast number of volcano evacuees. Once the race and fashions on the field formalities are done and dusted, it’ll be time to get the real party rolling with music and DJs from 2pm and the main event from 4pm as The Voices take to the stage to entertain you.

Don’t delay, giddy up, grab your tickets and shout it out to your friends now for a chance to be a part of one hot day of entertainment. A Natural Alternative to Safe Sun Protection

Blog Thank Me Later
Bali’s sun can be punishing. It doesn’t take much time on the beach to feel the effects of its rays and the resulting sunburn can quickly play havoc with holiday plans. With plenty of sunscreens available on the market it can be difficult to decide on the right one for your skin type and chemical free products can be hard to find.

THANK ME LATER is a naturally based, broad spectrum SPF 30 sun lotion made with love in Bali – Island of the Gods. Launched in early 2016, this product is sold locally on the island and is available for online orders with worldwide shipping. THANK ME LATER offers you a 2 in 1 product, moisturising your skin while providing SPF protection and has been created for every day face and body use. The formula is extremely light and non-greasy – making it the perfect alternative to your daily moisturiser, leaving you feeling and smelling fab and fresh. The travel-sized 70ml tubes stand out in the crowd, with funky sketches characterising the three available scents. Pick you favourite in their current range, from fresh Aloe Vera & Cucumber, sweet Pear & Green Tea or delicious Coconut & Lavender.

THANK ME LATER SPF 30 contains no paraffin or parabens, no mineral oil or colorants, and delivers safe and effective broad-spectrum protection. The lotion’s base is a coconut and almond oil, aloe vera extract and vitamin E mixture, and is capped with UVA and UVB filters to provide sufficient protection from the sun.
With natural healing properties, the lotion feeds your skin the goodness it needs during sun exposure. High in anti-oxidants, Sweet Almond Oil and Vitamin E ensure your skin is protected from oxidative stress and UV radiation damage, keeping it soft and supple. Coconut Oil hydrates and soothes inflamed skin with its high anti-inflammatory properties. Finally, cool Aloe Vera extract acts as a protective barrier on the skin, replenishing moisture and helps heal damaged skin quicker.

THANK ME LATER is 100% cruelty-free and provides the best possible choice for sun lovers looking for a more natural alternative to sun protection. Excessive sun exposure increases the risk of skin cancer dramatically but fortunately we can reduce this risk by 80% simply by regularly applying sun care products. A daily moisturiser with SPF is a year-round beauty bag essential, preventing wrinkles and premature ageing as the suns rays can be damaging on even the cloudiest of days. Its light and fragrant solution will keep your skin hydrated and protected from the moment you step out the door! Duck into FINNS Beach Club Boutique and grab a tube today…….. You’re welcome!

Time to Say Hello to Your Toes!

Yoga at Canggu

Let’s face it. Many of us spend hours in the gym or pounding the pavement to build our muscles, improve cardio fitness and generally keep the bulge at bay. But if you are anything like me and tend to forget about stretching and flexibility and focus more on torturous toning, the thought of touching our toes or participating in that occasional game of tipsy Twister (stop smirking, we’ve all been there!) can be cause for concern and more than a few cackles.

It’s one thing to build muscles but maintaining flexibility is also important and a balance between the two is vital. Yoga is an ideal way to develop strength as well as gaining flexibility along with a more holistic approach to a healthy body. FINNS Recreation Club offers three different yoga classes as part of its weekly fitness schedule: held 10am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for ninety minutes. It’s perfect timing really as you can still fit in an earlier Pump, TRX class or gym session and head straight into yoga to stretch and loosen those tortured limbs.

Classes take place in the spacious air conditioned fitness studio. With the onset of wet season there is no need to worry about weather conditions and new yogi’s can ease into their practice in air conditioned comfort.

One of these sessions is led by local yoga guru, I Wayan Wistika or better known to many as Marcus. To those of us who have ever attended one of his classes, Marcus needs little introduction. With a friendly manner and easygoing style, he encourages a relaxed and calming ambience in his classes and any beginners’ concerns are immediately allayed as he emphasizes participants listen to their bodies and only do as much as they comfortably can. As only experienced instructors do, he suggests different options for each pose, allowing for every level of expertise within each class.

Yoga at Canggu

Marcus

Marcus pays attention to form and style, ensuring an injury free experience and one that will leave you amazed at how you just managed to “kiss your knees” when only ninety minutes earlier you arrived, convinced that even your fingertips would struggle to greet your toes.

Balinese born and bred in Tabanan, Marcus’s yogic journey began during a period of employment at a local village yoga retreat as head of guest services.

Participating in the yoga classes, he was introduced to a number of inspirational instructors who inspired him to pursue this journey towards health and wellbeing.
He went on to teach yoga at this retreat, has taken part in numerous international seminars, local courses, the annual Bali Spirit festival and has spent a number of years enhancing the health and wellbeing of hotel guests with yoga classes at the prestigious Comoshambala Hotel, The Chedi Clubs in Ubud and Jimbaran, as well as The Legian in Seminyak. Along with classes at FINNS Rec Club, he also teaches privately throughout Southern Bali and continues to hone his craft, broadening his teaching styles to include Restorative Yoga, Vinyasa Flow and of course, yoga for beginners.

With more than 17 years of yoga experience, Marcus has somewhat of a devoted following. “Yoga is my lifestyle – As you practise it more, it changes your life, from what you eat to how you live. And if you keep practising, it changes your soul.”

Pop into FINNS Rec Club to experience yoga for yourself on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday @ 10am. I promise your hamstrings will thank you! Platinum and Gold FINNS Bali members enjoy the benefit of free classes, including Marcus’s yoga. Social Memberships are also available starting from only Rp 400,000 for a weekly membership.

Count Down to Football Finals Fever @FINNS Recreation Club

FINNS Recreation Club

FINNS Recreation Club

If you’re a footy fanatic….and judging by the butts on barstools in Bali sports bars each weekend there are many… you’ll be getting a tad excited as we near the latter part of football season. Finals are approaching and it’s getting to the pointy end of the competition with that silver chalice in the line of sight for several teams on the sporting ladder.

A time of year when anguished cries over lost tries can be heard emanating from clubs and bars across the island, when slightly-too-tight jerseys bearing team colours and insignias make their annual appearance, and when the weekend of September 30th to October 1st is reserved for nothing else but FOOTBALL!!!
It appears the team at FINNS are just as fanatical about footy as you are because this year they’ve upped the ante for Grand Final weekend entertainment. No chance of missing even a minute of the game with two big screens, including one huge LED screen on the footy field, as well as thirty plasma screens positioned inside the Sports Bar and outside around Bistro C.

Choose A/C and indoors in the Sports Bar or the festhaus ambience of FINNS’ Footy Beer Hall for Saturday’s AFL Grand Final – a shaded marquee in the middle of the Rec Club lawns, decked out with draft beer on tap and great deals on icy cold buckets of bottled beer. It would barely be a Grand Final without footy food and FINNS will have the BBQ stoked up and ready to go along with the entire meaty menu from Smoke House available to accompany your beverages. I’m thinking beers and a beef brisket here meat lovers…..nom, nom, nom!

Grand Final weekend is an all ages event and FINNS is providing plenty of ‘on field’ entertainment for the whole family. Let the kids spend the afternoon on the free jumping castles then put your fancy footwork skills to the test for the chance to win Rp10,000,000 in FINNS ‘Kick the Ball Comp’. If the scoreboard after the final siren doesn’t leave you with a grin, try your luck another way and pick the margin win!

Coverage of Saturday, September 30th’s AFL Grand Final action begins from 8am with kick off for the main event from midday (Bali time). NRL football final viewing the following afternoon on Sunday October 1st provides potential for a much needed sleep in and some recovery time before on field antics start again at 2pm with the big battle from 5pm.

But there’s no need to clear the bleachers once the whistle blows and the players leave the field because FINNS is featuring live entertainment from alternative Bali based band, Silent Alarm after each game! Entry to FINNS Recreation Club is free and everyone is welcome. The countdown to finals weekend is on. Wear your team colours, show some fighting spirit and warm up those vocal chords football fans ‘cos it’s gonna get loud!

Here’s Cheers to The Weekend

Cheers To the Weekend at FINNS Beach Recreation Club - Bali

Cheers To the Weekend at FINNS Beach Recreation Club – Bali

Brunch is BIG in Bali! But with most venues only offering this popular weekend staple on a Sunday, there is little in the way of similar feasts to choose from for a Saturday…..until now!

I get it…. Sunday is usually the ideal day to laze around sans Havaianas and heaving weekly schedules as most of us have been emancipated from the chains of weekday employment and what better weekend pursuit than to fill your belly full of unlimited treats for an hour or three. But what about those Saturday mornings when you wake from the TGIF night that was (you know, the one that starts with just one after work wine with friends then somehow winds up at the champagne bar at 3am… come on people you know you’ve been there!) and you need nutrition….STAT!!

Bistro C at FINNS Recreation Club feels your post Friday night pain and has introduced their Saturday Brunch Buffet – Hooray for the weekend alright!! No need to wait until Sundays to satisfy your cravings for unlimited gourmet fare, come to FINNS from 10am and get your foodie fill until 1pm. They’ll make you feel at home with a welcome drink on arrival, then you can replenish last night’s lost fluids with free flow iced water, juice or refreshing iced lime tea, or even a hair of the dog if necessary. Reliable sources inform me Bistro C’s Bloody Mary is one of the best on the island. Super sized, spicy and garnished with a strip of smoky bacon, it packs the necessary punch to kickstart your weekend and propel you toward feeling human again!

Feeling better? Follow your nose towards that aroma of freshly cooked crepes, eggs any style and a carvery station serving up succulent smoky cuts to get your mouth watering. Load up with pastas, gourmet sandwiches and a bounty of healthy hot and cold selections to stack your plate and fill your tummy.

Scheduled at this stage for every second Saturday from 10am till 1pm, Bistro C’s Saturday Brunch is open for everybody to attend, members, guests and holidaymakers alike and it won’t break the brunch bank. As far as Bali Brunches go, this one is extremely affordable at only RP250K nett for adults and RP150K nett for kids. Ideal for those of you who only want to have a few bevies with your brekky/brunch, you’re not tied in to a drinks package so you can choose to have just one glass of bubbles or a bottle if you please!

Bookings are advisable and you can choose seating inside in the air conditioning or make the most of Bali’s breezy weather at the moment and go al fresco. Don’t despair sports lovers. Just because you’ve chosen brunch over a bar stool in front of the weekend footy fixtures, you won’t miss any of the game because Bistro C now has over thirty screens showing every sport. Problem solved.

Why wait until Sunday to fill your tank? Don’t waste half of your precious days off sitting at home pondering your weekend program. The next one being September 9th and then 23rd and continue through every second Saturday. Kickstart it with Saturday Brunch at Bistro C, here’s cheers to the weekend!

Festival Fun Days are Back at FINNS

Music and Wine Festival at FINNS Recreation Club Bali

Music and Wine Festival at FINNS Recreation Club Bali

It’s baaaaaccckk! After a little hiatus throughout the long summer break, it’s back to school and back to the business of fun at FINNS Recreation Club with the second of their Food and Wine Festivals. Free for everyone to attend it promises lashings of family flavoured fun where you can get your fill of food, free entertainment, liquid refreshments and retail therapy all in the one place on Friday September 1st from 3pm.

Join everybody on the lawn and let the kids run free for a while or bounce off the walls on the jumping castles. Speaking of bouncing… bigger kids or those of us still young at heart might be keen to take part in the not-so-serious new sports sensation, Zorb Soccer! An hilarious hybrid, the game appears to be a crossbreed creation of billiards, bumper cars and football and is seriously funny to see. Players’ upper bodies are encased in an inflated, ring shaped orb with only their lower limbs free to move. Zorbers form two teams and the concept of the game is much the same as soccer with a lot of bouncy contact! One of the best things about Zorb Soccer ( Snookball if you prefer to call it), other than side splitting fun, is that you are protected from sharp elbows and hard surfaces by one huge air filled floatie!

Cool off after your Zorb Soccer session with a few runs down the rides at Splash, however you’ll have to leave your Zorb ‘floatie’ behind as they’re NOT permitted on the slides, (as entertaining as that might be!) Splash is free for everybody from 3pm on Food and Wine Festival days at FINNS so remember to bring your swimsuits.

All of that hydro fun can build quite a thirst but with no less than ten food and beverage vendors as well as Bistro C’s Smoke House serving up an international smorgasbord of snacks, you won’t need to search far to refuel and you can count on rehydration of a different kind at the bar. It’s drinks on the house for the first few shouts as each FINNS member receives three free drink tokens to help get the par-tay started!

Tummy full and GnT in hand, take a stroll around the market and check out the wares on show from eighty market stall vendors. Find your next pair of active wear, sepeda motor seat covers, snacks, swimsuits, stylish threads, toys and tons more to tempt you to open your wallet. Even if you’re not up for any retail therapy (err…. like, as if!!!) sit back in a bean bag and enjoy the show! The evening is chock full of entertainment for everyone to enjoy with laid back tunes from acoustic guitarists, a magician to enthral the kids and DJ to keep the tunes rocking into the later hours and it’s all free!

If you’d like to be a market stall vendor at the next FINNS Food and Wine Festival get in quick and contact eka.andi@finnsrecclub.com for details. Set September 1st aside in your diaries for some family sized fun, get ready to shop, be social and shake your booty!

Did Someone Say Free Beer?

Celebrate Fathers Day with Free Beer at FINNS Recreation Club Bali

Celebrate Fathers Day with Free Beer at FINNS Recreation Club Bali

Dads deserve to be celebrated and what better way to show your father just how much you appreciate him than with free beer and a feast fit for a king at FINNS, Bistro C Smoke House.

Bring the entire family to FINNS Recreation Club for Fathers’ Day on Sunday, September 3rd because you’ll need the whole clan to polish off Smoke House’s signature Chef’s Tasting Plate. Scrumptious smoked servings fit for four to six hungry people, the tasting platter is a smorgasbord of homemade, house-smoked beef brisket, sausages, spare ribs, pulled pork and a whole chicken.

As if that wasn’t enough to stop any self respecting carnivore mid stride, the platter also includes a choice of three sides (I’d strongly recommend the truffle mac and cheese…..!), plus a generous serving of Smoke House’s home grown coleslaw and grilled corn. All that food for the special price of only Rp900K nett AND Dad gets a free pint of Heineken to wash it all down. Sweet! In fact, Dad receives a free beer for every main course ordered so the more you bring to celebrate, the merrier Dad might be!

Smoke House’s full menu will be available with favourites for the less carnivorous among us like the raw broccoli salad as well as spicy appetisers such as the jalapeño poppers to entice palates with a preference for a little fire and Bistro C will also offer the ever popular Sunday Roast from 11am. There’s always at least one who opts for dessert and once your group gets an eyeful of the cheesecake or churros, that’ll be the end of any diet resolutions until the weekend is over!

Make it a Fathers’ Day dinner from 5pm or come for lunch from 11am and you might just end up staying on for dinner too! Bistro C has entertainment to keep your toes tapping all day with a live band from 11am until 2pm, followed by a live acoustic guitar performance from 6.30pm.

Younger members of the family will have more than enough to keep them occupied with Splash Water Park open until 6pm then a family movie from 6.30pm for them to wind down in the evening. Kids with an appetite for more adrenalin can hop on the shuttle and over to Bounce in order to expend a little more energy. It really is babysitting made easy!

FINNS Bali Gold and Platinum members can be sure of making Fathers Day an enjoyable and economical day out with 20% discount off food until 5pm and then a whopping 50% from 5pm onwards. With that kind of discount you can feed all of your family and friends and enjoy a couple of extra beers on the house!

For a Fathers Day to remember, make it a family affair at FINNS this year. Bookings are advisable and seating is available indoors in air conditioned comfort or al fresco style on the verandah. Go to bistrocbali.com and click on the ‘Book Now’ tab to secure your table. Happy Father’s Day Dad!
